LBI Fishing Report December 21, 2019

Finally we get a nice break from the brutal winds and all reports were very good fishing. The year is winding down fast but the fishing continues strong. Get out and enjoy fun fishing before the death grip of winter sets in. Here’s the Long Beach Island Fishing Report Update for Saturday December 21, 2019 the shortest day of the year.

Days are getting longer from here on out!

Striped Bass Fishing

All of the classy ones are down in Virginia entering the Chesapeake Bay. Here’s Fish Heads Ambassador Dan releasing his new personal best.

Dan reported, “It was an awesome early Christmas present! Was chasing this fish since I was a kid. Came close many times. Finally! Fish was 52-53lbs on the Boga. I can’t thank Chuck Tyman and Mike Greene enough for taking the time and showing me the ropes!”

While the big ones are was south there’s an abundance of hungry linesiders still here! Today we heard some promising reports from both beach and boat anglers.

LBI Surf Fishing Report

There’s lots of striped bass cruising the beaches of LBI. While most think it’s over, the skeleton crew (or should we call them the Eskimos) are still grinding and catching!

Bill Heade fished a few time in recent days and had this report to share. “I fished the incoming tide on Thursday 19th on the north end of LBI at first light. I caught one schoolie bass. Had four other bites, two dropped on way in and two others didn’t come tight.  A metal with a teaser and a sand eels soft bait tail got all my bites. Seemed like a slow retrieve worked best. Called it quits at about 9:30am when my plug bag froze up. You know it is cold when things start freezing up. The water beads were freezing on my jacket. Shout out to Mike at Fish Heads for recommending a neoprene Stormr Jacket! Kept me warm all morning! Had a thermal and a long sleeve underneath and I was sweating. The jackets awesome and worth every penny!”

Bassin’ On The Boat

One report came in from Professor Fish Head Dave Werner who fish with the Coen brothers Jon and Brian. “We bundled up and went for a morning trip. There were a few fish off Island Beach on the jig with some birds picking. Everything was scattered.”

Another report came in from Mike Kelly… Heading in from wreck fishing we came across piles of fish right outside the Inlet. All dinks.”

Tog Fishing!

The Jersey tautog season has been very good! By all accounts it’s firing on all cylinders right into 2020!

Zach Michot from Magictails was out today aboard the No Moores. “It was another good day with a four man limit of quality tautog. Magictail products doing the magic!”

Fish Head Alumni Swag has been getting out every break he can get. He shared this report, “Fished Monday on the Osprey out of Atlantic City and had a fantastic day catching with 8 keepers. Headed back out Friday but it was a different story I only had 1 blackfish all day, but other caught. I was planning on taking the day off but had a buddy ask me to head out with him. I decided to go today. You never know when the weather will turn sour and blow for an extended period of time, so I want to take advantage of the fishable days when I can. I’m glad I did! I had a double limit+ with the big fish just shy of 11 pounds.

Jared Grady did a double on the Osprey fishing Friday and Saturday. He had a great day on both trips.

Deep Water Sea Bass Fishing

Anglers are heading out to the deep hunting sea bass and getting in on drop and reel fishing. Nick Perello has been getting out and each trip is loading up! His most recent trip was was today. They limited out with all over 18″.

Earlier in the week Nick reported some big weakfish mixed in with the sea bass and porgies.

Another customer in the shop (local Manahawkin angler) fishing on the Voyager reported great fishing on his recent trips. “Lots of good sea bass jigging as well as weakfish in the 3-8# range. There’s also large bonita and some jumbo porgies. Everyone is limiting out on the boat. Some days I’m catching double and triple limits jigging. There’s lots of sand eels out there so the slender jigs are the way to go. Hands down the Nomand Streaker Jigs Are The Best!

The Nomand Streaker Jigs are by far the most popular jig in the North East the past coupe of years. The slender profile is well knows as the hottest jig when fish are keyed in on sand eels. The past couple of years the Nomand Streaker Jigs are responsible for out fishing just about any and all jigs on the mid-shore bluefin grounds. They also shined all fall for striped bass and now are working great on sea bass. If you haven’t fished a Streaker nows the time to grab one because we have some in stock. During the “season” they sell out as fast, usually one to two days after arriving. Take a look at them today!

LBI Fishing Report December 13, 2019

The weather has not been the best but fishing is surprisingly very good! Anglers are catching on the beach and in the boat. Here’s a short fishing report update for Friday the 13th, December 2019.

Juvenile striped bass continue in good numbers. Local anglers are catching matching the hatch…. think slender sand eels. Here a photo from Joe Medica “Epic night on the beach with bass and a crazy full moon!” Photo of Tyler Medica above.

It’s prime time tog fishing here! Store staffer Frezza was out Wednesday aboard the No Moores and got his personal best, 10.54# and fellow angler Johnny O got a 12.46#. Both were caught on Magcitail Tog Jigs baited with live crab. Here’s a photo of Dante from Magictails with a fat female that he caught and released this week.

LBI’s Weekend Fishing Report For December 8, 2019

Another good weekend of fishing the waters of Long Beach Island. Saturday started off sporty with stiff northerly blow but things settled down mid day and the second half was beautiful. Sunday followed it up being a flawless day. Those that got out and fished were rewarded. Small fish but don’t complain. It’s December… enjoy it while it lasts! Here’s the Long Beach Island Fishing Report Update.

On The Surf

The small bass action continues on the LBI surf offering great catch and release fun on light tackle. Finding a keeper size fish or better is a long shot but the consistent of action is awesome. Anglers fishing the same tackle as previously reported numerous time are getting it done.

Chris Masino post this photo and reported “Another Fun Night” fishing Sunday.

Sarge tagged us on a video releasing a bass on the surf Saturday. He said catch and release fishing has been fun.

Steve George shared a report on his Facebook page, “It’s been a great couple of weeks (day and night) tagging all these juvenile striped bass that have invaded the surf line. Hope they get a chance to double in size and return some migration data research to better understand these very important inshore fish. If they do the fishing can be very good again. We will See.”

LBI Surf Fishing Classic

This weekend concludes the LBI Surf Fishing Classic. Administration wise it will be wrapped up soon.

Looking back it was a slow year for quality size striped bass and there was a missing species. Not one bluefish! We know a good mass of striped bass hung around the three mile line and the deeper waters all fall. But where were the bluefish? This was not the year for bunker chunkers! The spiny dog fish ruled the suds and wreaked havoc on those soaking baits. It really shows with the top six biggest fish, none on bunker. Surfcasters shuffling their lures worked some magic and the night shift crew put together some good nights eeling. The North End of the Island was most productive early, mid and late season. As expected the largest and best fishing was late October and early November. In the end there was an influx of bass but nothing that would show for the tournament record purposes.

On The Boat

Last run of the year for Brendan Craig today. He reported, “We had doubles at sunrise. It was a good day.” Dave Werner was also out with a couple friends. He reported an “Epic December Bite” on lures.

Friday morning Tyler Wilk reported, “Fished out of BI this morning. Went north and caught shorts. Headed back south to Harvey Cedars Lump and trolled up several 25-29″ fish on umbrella rigs. Swell picked up and the bite died. ON the way in we hit a massive bird play and jigged up another keeper.”

The Miss Barnegat Light did good over the weekend but Sunday was their last trip of the year. “Lots of action! Fish lighter tackle and have a ball!”

The Ultimate Angler Experience

The First Ultimate Angler Experience went down on Saturday (12/7/19) and was a huge success. What a great group of guys! The conditions were sporty in the morning but as the day went on things settled down. For the intents and purposes, the fishing was good. Every stop/spot the tog were hungry and the first 20 minutes or so would be good. But it just wouldn’t last much longer. Fortunately the Captain kept moving and adjusting to keep us active with fish all day.

A couple anglers limited out with Crazy Fast Eddy being the high hook. Congrats to Johnny O, the big winner of the day! Not only did his big fish (right about 10 pounds) take home the pool, but he was one of the anglers who won 1 of the 7 rods and reels that were raffled off. Our wonderful and generous sponsors made it possible for everyone to win something; rods, reels, gift cards, fishing line, apparel, tackle. There were loads of giveaways!

Thanks to everyone who attended. We hope you enjoyed the whole experience. We already got some great feedback from anglers who loved the trip. We are already looking forward to the next Ultimate Angler Experience.

Huge Thanks to Swag (Matt Sorrentino) for coming up with the idea and making the event happen. Also a big thanks to Magictail’s Dante Soriente and Frank Mihalic for sharing some of the their knowledge accumulated over the years. All three of the short seminar talks (Matt, Dante, Frank) were great!

Thanks to the Captain and Crew of the Osprey NJ for hosting us. Also a special thank you to Daiwa’s Chris Shoplock and Jigging World’s Mike Kim for providing an incredible amount of products for everyone to demo on the boat. It was great sharing the rail and fishing with you guys! Also thanks to Cortland Line Co and The Fishermans Magazine!

Keep your eyes out on or social media page for some photos and video from the trip. We’ll be sharing periodically over the winter.

LBI Surf Fishing Report

Every year the beaches of LBI light up around the late November early December time frame. This year is no different. The past week has been the best run of fish all fall, quantity wise. Reports from the entire Island are decent however the North End’s beaches (North Beach to Barnegat Light) have been best. When all else fails… pull out a green tail AVA jig and cast it as fas as you can! It best be rigged with a teaser!!!

Here’s a couple reports from the fun action Saturday and Sunday morning before the weather.

“The school bite remans hot on the Central Jersey beaches. This morning (Sunday) stiff east winds to the face made the surf conditions ideal. There was a good early morning bite.” Dillon (@dillonl.fishing) stopped in the shop for a handful of AVA Jigs then reported back, “I caught several bass this morning on a diamond jig teaser combo.”

Shop regular Bill Heade stopped in for some teasers and chose the EZ Body Fish Head Sand Eel teasers. He reported, “Five on the teaser. Caught 15 all together. Today they were way way out! I needed to blast a 4oz AVA as hard and far as I could. It was hard to reach them.”

Blake Scholey enjoyed a “Saturday Sunset Rope Session” with bass on the beach. Blake said, “Everything was on metal. The best action was after the sun went down. All fish were in the 28″ range.”

Dogfish King Rick H. caught some bass last night on the bayside fishing soft plastics.

In The Boat

While most are pulling out or already wrapped up for the winter, there’s a select few that knows late season fishing can be the best! Whether it’s tog fishing or striped bass there’s a lot more left in the tank. We are looking forward to December fishing because there’s a lot more to go before the fat lady sings.

Congrats to Fish Head’s Ambassador Swagmattic… Saturday was the day he finally broke the ice and landed his first double digit tog. It was a long road with lots of fish just shy but he finally hung a true double digit back fish.

Are you looking to get out and fish for blackfish? Looking to learn some tog tactics from top tog anglers in a fun interactive setting? Now’s the time to jump aboard the Osprey (sails out of Atlantic City) and enjoy a day on the water fishing the Ultimate Angler Experience, learning and winning some great prizes. Ensure your spot on the trip next Saturday December 7th today… Sign Up Now!

We saw a push of slightly larger bass the past few days. Not saying a large class, just a bump up from the cookie cutter schoolies of what has been the recent run as of late.

Andrew Millz reported, “Insane fishing! Two and three on at a time on the troll. Some nicer fish on the jig too. Over 40 fish in two hours with fish up to 35 inches. All released.”

Ronnie Karchik posted had a great time. They found some bigger class of fish. Here’s a photo of his kid with one.

Here’s some reports from the Miss Barnegat Light

Sunday – “It was a little wet today but we had a good day early on with everyone getting bonus tag fish. We only had two fish over 28 inches. Lots of action with lots of fish released.”

Saturday – “Caught some today, but not what we’ve been catching. Still seeing plenty of fish on the sonar and rolling on the surface, but they weren’t easy to catch. However the fish caught today were bigger. Jig caught most of the fish today, with no color better than the next. We did have a few fish on Ron Z sand eels too.”

Friday – “Another god day of fishing. Read more than we caught but almost everyone had a fish to take home. A few late day drifts yielded some nice fish to 39 inches.

LBI’s Thanksgiving Fishing Report

The waters of Long Beach Island are full of great fishing. From striped bass to tautog there’s spectacular fishing going down! Here’s LBI’s Thanksgiving Fishing Report for the evening of Wednesday, November 27, 2019.

Striped Bass Fishing

Recent days were lights out fishing for most! Great reports from both boat and land based angler show there’s a large body of striped bass parked in our local waters. With the abundance of bait and water in the range of 48-50 degrees we expect good fishing right into December.

It’s been a top water spectacular with light winds the past few days. Anglers fishing sand eel imitations are fooling linesiders most productively.

LBI surf anglers are having a blast doing the same. Sunrise and sunset are best times to target; however some good late morning and afternoon bites went down. At times distance very important so metals are standouts. Be sure to fish a teaser!

Tautog Fishing

The bottom fish bulldogs continue to chew! Theses thick, muscular bruisers are a ton of fun and the big ones will test your tackle.

All reports from customer are very good with regards to quantity and quality. Lots of boat limit reports. We hope everyone gets in on the great fishing before it’s brutally cold. But also!!!! Please fish responsibly as tog are slow growing and we can not let our recreation pressures gash the stock like we did the striped bass. This is too good to screw up. Do your part!  Have fun catching. Keep a couple when the time is right and safely release the others.

Fish Head Charters

Tuesday – I fished with Fish Head Ambassador Swagmattic and store staffer Max. We got out early to hunt down tog. Our first stop produced a good consistent bite with a nice size range but nothing big. The largest was 5-6 pound range, but there was a number of them. After putting in a few hours then moved around. We found another good bite where some health fish were hiding. We caught some and lost one big one that was in a class al of it’s own. They don’t get that big for a reason!

Wednesday – I was up early and figured I had to go take advantage of the tranquil morning before the southerly blow. I’m so happy I did! I headed out solo for a dawn patrol with just a couple fly rods in hand. It turns out to be a day among days. Definitely by best fly fishing bite of the fall (since albies were all that this year this day really stands out). Lots of schoolie bass rolling on sand eels. I managed to push away from the fleet and found single bunker being played on by bigger bass in the 20-30# class range however I couldn’t get them to take even my biggest bunker flied. I must have had 10 follows right to the boat but none committed. I would of been much earlier to have an extra hand but it added to the mayhem and fun.

Give Thanks!

Happy Thanksgiving to everyone! I’d like to take this time to thank all of our readers. Thank you for following our blog posts. We hope you enjoy and find the information valuable.

LBI Fishing Report Weekend Recap November 24, 2019

This weekend was full of great fishing! Did you get out and enjoy?

Anglers working the water of Long Beach Island were rewarded with great catches. Both boat and land based anglers are consistently finding fish and having a fun time doing so. The abundance of striped bass in the local waters is promising that fishing will roll right into December.

Here’s The Fish Heads LBI Fishing Report Weekend Recap Tor Sunday November 24, 2019.

LBI Surf Fishing Report

The past few days have been good to the surf anglers fishing the beaches of LBI. Currently the LBI surf temperatures is in the 49-51 degree range.

“During the typical sand eel bite like we are seeing here in NJ you need to key in on the short limited times they are feeding to get in on the action (sunrise and sunset mostly).” Veteran surfcaster Steve George shares, “My favorite presentation fishing overnight in the dark are needlefish lures. But as you can see they are also very effective during the day.” Here’s a photo Steve tagged us in… small bass on slender lures, in this case a Super Strike Needle Fish Lure.

Tom Smith was on the beach with his son Tommy for an evening session. They landed four schoolies in less than an hour this evening on the North End surf. Tommy was stoked! Teaser and Daiwa SP Minnow was the ticket.

Here’s five year old Tommy with one of many striped bass he caught with his father Sunday.

Miss Barnegat Light Fishing Info

Anglers aboard Saturday and Sunday were into fish. Here’s the report from the Miss BL, “Good days of fishing! On Saturday we picked at a mix of slots, shorts and a few over 28 inches. Sunday we had an awesome day. First picking then finding hungry ones. We had action for hours. There’s a good amount of fish within a short ride of the Inlet. Fishing looks goof for the foreseeable future.

Get To The Boat Early & Jump Aboard: Thanksgiving 6am-12noon, Black Friday, Saturday, Sunday 7am departures. If it’s blowing we are going because the fish are here.

Tautog Fishing LBI

Tog Fishing has been very good. Now with the regulations opened up to five fish per anglers there’s much more participation and pressure. What was easy pickings has turned back a couple clicks but still great fishing none the less. At the right pieces, at the right times, it’s fast and furious. Expect great tog fishing into the Holidays and beyond.

If you are looking to get in. on the action and need to gear up stop in. We are fully stocked up on rigs, jigs and all sorts of tog tackles. We also have top rods and reels ready to rock. Also we’ve got all of the cold weather fish essentials from boots, gloves and waterproof fishing apparel from Grundens and Guy Cotten the two best names in the game.

Jersey Ghost Hunting

What was once known as ghost hunting has turned into near shore bluefin fishing. You can’t call it ghost hunting if they are consistently seen and caught.

Below is a photo of Chris Degennaro with his son Ryan and an inshore bluefin tuna. Chris reported, “Well today was the cherry on top of what was a great season of fishing with family and friends. After several trips one of which we lost a heart breaker, finally landed the elusive fall bluefin. Just me and Ryan today. He helped clear lines, drove the boat while I was fighting the fish and helping me finish it off. While I was mentally prepared, I will say I got very lucky!”

With a little luck on their side, Father and son team made it happen!

Here’s another inshore bluefin photo from this weekend… “Red Man” Mark Haley.

Offshore Fishing Report

The offshore season is just about over but some anglers can’t quit. Nick Perello gave it go and shared this report, “We ran out of BI to the southern canyons for some daytime sword fishing. It was a very slow day but had a great time with friends. Two bites and caught one small but legal swordfish. We were pretty sure we were the only boat to run offshore from NJ.”

Fish Head Charters Update

The fishing continues on very good with lots of bass, lots of bait and lots of birds. Most days the screen is lit up with striped bass (and spiny dog fish) stacked like cord wood. They are feasting on sand eels making for prime time light tackle fishing. Some days the bass fishing has been silly good. Anyone looking to get in on fly fishing striped bass… Now is the time! You actually have the advantage being able to fish small presentations wth light line. There’s no better way to fool these sometimes spooky fish. Also the follows, eat and fight it just so much more fun.

Here’s Jared And Torr with two health tog they doubled up with fishing live crabs on Magictail Tog Jigs.

My recent trips were focused on tog fishing. The bite has been very good and steady with limit catches on almost all trips. While we haven’t caught the large double digit fish that some are tugging up I know we soon will. Utilizing the Rhodan GPS Anchor we’ve been working prime structure and knocking on their doors.

Are you looking to get out and fish? Jump aboard Fish Head Charters and get in on the fun. The weather is getting cold but the fishing is red hot. Now’s the time to get in on the fun before the wicked winter kicks in. Whether it’s striped bass or tog (or a combo of both) there’s lots of light tackle fun to be had.

Linda Lee Sportfishing Report

Saturday we had out the Drew crew and it was nothing short of epic striped bass fishing. We headed north 2 miles out of Barnegat Inlet and it was on birds working and plenty of boats. We caught 9 fish with 2 keepers there. The guys were looking for the meat. We got word of some bigger fish north of the wheel so we took the run. Once we got up there it was slow for an hour but then the tide turned we started getting double headers. With 4 whales working the bunker pods and bird action all afternoon it was prime time fall fishing. We managed to get 7 keepers and caught 16 fish. The guys were all stoked on a great day of fishing. Magictail mojo’s and the 9er Shad Umbrella Rigs did the trick all day.

I have November 30th and December 1st available if you’re looking to get out a fish. Give Captain Ryan a Call 609-276-8032

LBI Fishing Report November 20, 2019

In recent time a good wave of striped bass have migrated into the local waters of Long Beach Island. Before this most recent blow reports were strong with an abundance of striped bass in the 22-30” range. Some larger fish were caught however no where near the same numbers as weeks earlier. This is some what common for this time of the season. For details on our last report 11/16/19 post see.

Here’s a Fishing Report Update for the evening of Wednesday 20, 2019.

Theres’s realy no need to report on the striped bass fishing from the boat. Anglers who get out will find fish… it’s November! Go Fish!

As far as the surf game goes… The fish feed on the available forage. Right now that is SANDEELS! This year there’s an abundance of sandeels and striped bass are keyed in. Match the hatch to hook up. Slender profile lures are what is getting bites. As far as bait, anglers fishing clam are out doing bunker chunkers.

Since there was a large weather system which kicked off the work week we can’t share much other than today and Tuesday. Tuesday had solid swell in the water but light winds. Anglers got out and found fish on the beach.

Charlie Kulp commented on our Facebook “LBI Surf Fishing Report – November 19, 2019” post, “Lots of fish today. All on salted clam.” Another report from the surf came in today from Torr Cohen. He fished with a buddy and got a pair of bass soaking clam. Merle Van Liere got a couple fish off the south end surf too.

We heard of some peanut bunker schools to our north. Things could get much more interesting if they show on LBI. But until then stick with the sand eel state of mind!

Barnegat Bay Fishing

Still getting reports of bayside striped bass. Both boat and land based anglers are finding bass hungry on bucktails and softbaits like Kettle Creek Paddle Tails rigged on a lead head jig. Depending on temperatures, the classic haunts can hold linesiders right into December.

Tautog Fishing

The tog fishing season is wide open and fishing has been very good. A couple reports came in yesterday and again a couple today. Dante from Magictail has been dialed in on the big white chins. Today he checked in a another double digit fish. If you want to get in on the action and need to gear up… stop in now and get in the game!

LBI Fishing Report November 16, 2019

The past two days (Thursday/Friday) were on fire with all day long striped bass action! Hopefully you got in on it because today (Saturday), Sunday and Monday are blown out. These days will be great for getting gear back in order. The westerlies swing back Tuesday and stick around throughout the work week. Be ready for the fish frenzies as West Is Best!

As per our previous report update (11/13/19) the influx of small striped bass is real, “Recently a smaller class of striped bass have filtered in.” Their abundance is good offering tons of fishing fun. “Not saying the big fish are gone.” A few large linger. One really big one was just caught by Captain Vinny Vetere. He got a fish of a lifetime… 55″ monster 67.55# striped bass on a bunker spoon trolling the waters of Northern Jersey.

Long Beach Island Surf Fishing Report

Small striped bass from 20-30″ range made a strong showing this week. They are cruising the suds and anglers are catching both day and night. Right now they are best targeting them with slender profile sand eel lookalikes; AVA Diamond Jigs, Daiwa SP Minnows Lures, Hogy Epoxy Jigs & Sand Eels and soft baits like Tsunami Sand Eels, Lunker City Sluggos and Ronz Softbaits

Rob Vallone and his buddy Andy found fish on the beach on Friday. Rob reported, “We worked the bars with metal and a teaser, each catching a number of fish up to 27 inches.”

William Clark weighed in a 10# striped bass for the LBI Surf Fishing Classic. He caught it off of the mid island surf on an artificial.

When the wind is in your face the fish are at your feet. We are expecting some fish on the beach during the next few days; however a Saturday morning report came in from Mike Cucinotta, “Can’t say I didn’t try. 12 oz would not hold more than five minutes.” While those looking for classy fish are soaking bunker, it’s our suggestion to leave the bait rods at home. For one the dog fish this year are relentless and two, the fish are keyed in on sand eels. Match the hatch!

Even with a no fish session it’s still a special time spending time on the surf at sunrise.

Tog Fishing

Today is the day, the New Jersey Recreational Tautog aka Blackfish limit bumps up today to five fish, still at 15″.

The tautog action continues on red hot! With the reg relaxing the next weather window will be when the real slaughter begins. Please remember these are slow growing species. Fish responsibly!

Now’s the time to gear up to be ready for your next trip. We currently have live crabs; both green crabs and “white legger” stone crabs. Stop in as soon as possible if you want them. First come first serve.

Store staffer Frezza got his first double digit white chin on Friday. He’s been hunting for one and just got an 11.4 pounder while fishing aboard the “No Moores”. It’s been a great week for the boys aboard the “No Moores” with lots of quality size fish and more than a handful of Double D’s. Magictail game changer tog jigs continue to out producing. Change your game with these proved big tog tamers! Magictail Tog Jigs

Offshore Report

Captain Jeff aboard the Reel Innovation reported a fun past couple of days. “We did one last trip to the sword grounds on Thursday with high hopes of 64-65 degree water still on the bank. Unfortunately it seems as though the bigger fish have migrated past our area.”

“Flag Pole” Jim Kuhl reported, “Awesome day on the water with my boys! Got a pre Thanksgiving butterball!”

Fish Head Charters

Had a Blast with the schoolies the past two days. Here on Long Beach Island it’s light tackle striped bass fishing at it’s finest!

I’d have to say targeting this current mass of fish trolling with heavy gear is a sin! But to each is own. For me fishing is about the fun and the challenge. Right now this body of fish keyed in on sand eels is super fun and super challenging with a light tackle lure approach. Take it one step further pull out the long rod and a fly! If you want to jump aboard and enjoy a day on the water give me a call. Depending on the day we could be blind casting and jigging. We could be sight casting to slurping fish on top!

FishHeadLBI.com Captain Greg Cudnik – Parker 21SE – Call/Text: 16093899963

Reel Innovation Sportfishing – Inshore Fishing Report

Lots of action! Jigging, casting or trolling the fall run is in full swing. Yesterday we went out trolling for the last few ours of daylight and we’re rewarded with non-stop action. Doubles and even triple striped bass on the same rig. There’s plenty of bigger fish are still around if you put the time in. The abundance of smaller bass is great and are a lot of fun on light tackle.

If you are looking to get out fishing this season, now is a great time to go! Bring the kids along and enjoy this awesome fishery. Call to schedule your trip. We have Tuesday and Wednesday available this week.

Fishing Report Update Wednesday November 13, 2019

What a wild day yesterday! It started out a nice somewhat warm (60 degree) morning quickly got frigid. Temperatures dropped and by noon time it was snowing. Then the day finished off with a great sunset light show.

Here’s the fishing report update to pick up where our last post (Nov 8th) left off. So far this fall we’ve had a quality run of large striped bass and this cold snap has things turning on all gears. I will go out on a limb here and make the call… Coming off the full moon (Tuesday), the prime “big fish” section of fall has past. Not saying the big fish are gone, but from here on out it will be nothing like what we saw the first 10 days of the month. Hopefully we’ll have another push of classy ones in early December (like 2017), but I’m not holing my breath. Recently a smaller class of striped bass have filtered in. In our book it’s ok because the abundance of smaller fish makes for a lot of fun!

Shall We Debate… Quality Vs Quantity?

Would you rather: Go fish five trips in a row and catch one 40# striped bass or fish five trips in a row and catch 10 small mediums each trip? Leave us a comment and let us know!

Fishing LBI Fishing Report Update

Fishing this past weekend was good on all accounts. Both boat and land based angler reports were strong… striped bass, blackfish, a few straggling albies and a speckled trout! No bluefish yet. Usually the first week or two of November bluefish show. We’ve yet to see them. Heard of a couple small ones but really haven’t seen much since they were plentiful in the warmer months.

Tuna and threshers are still hanging around in close!

You never know what you’re gonna catch! Jack Keating caught this speckled trout while fishing the Jetty at Barnegat Light this weekend. He was casting a Super Strike Bottle Plug searching for a striped bass. Some say with the Oyster Creek Power Plant being decommissioned these resident fish have to find a new home and are on their way out. This was not the only one caught. Last week John Nixon caught one off of the mid-Island surf.

Hope you got out and enjoyed some fall fishing recently. The striped bass fishing has been good. Anglers trolling bunker spoons, mojos and umbrella rigs are picking fish. Those fishing sandeels imitations are producing more fish as the majority of the local striped bass are keyed in on the slender profile baits.

Chris O’Neill sent in this photo on November 9th, “Kegga just got this one a minute ago fishing off of IBSP.” It turns out their was their only fish all day. Chris reported there was lots of. bait around but it was a slow day. This fish and some whales rounded out the day.
Gabe Ercol was aboard LBI Charters with Captain Greg Carr recently. He reported a decent morning with six bass on the troll, with four being keepers. He said the bite shut off at 9am.
Store staffer Willie was out on the water yesterday morning before the weather arrived. He got into good fishing casting lures. The mad hooker also ended up hooking his hand.

Land Based LBI Tog Fishing

The Barnegat Light Inlet Jetty has been very productive for land based anglers. It’s been going strong for a number of weeks and we expect it to be good right into Thanksgiving. Anglers are catching good number and finding keepers regularly. The white chins are loving green crabs! Anglers fishing rigs and jigs are going good.

The NJ Tog aka Blackfish Season’s Regulations expanded, opening up on Nov 16 (from one fish) to 5 fish.

Tyler Carlson tagged us in this photo and shared the caption; “After talking to a women about how I haven’t caught anything all morning. She wished me luck and began to walk away when BAM! Fish On! After the past few evenings feeding the dogfish at night I decided to switch up my fishing this morning and went for some tog. Felt good to catch a real fish for a change.”

From The Boat – The tog bite is off to a great start this season. The big fish are on the chew and it looks like the stage is set for a great back half of November and an even better December.

Cow Alert! Gary Adair caught this 12# tog on a 1-1/2oz Magictail Tog Jig.

Congrats Dante on another monster!  Here’s a 29″ biggin’ that weighed in on the Boga over 17 pound. It was safety released to grow even bigger and breed some new classy blackfish.

Here’s a recent monster catch by Dante at Magictail, maker of top quality Mojos for striped bass and Game Changer Tog Jigs. Just one of those days you could do no wrong. Fishing With Dave from Patriot Plumbing aboard the No Moores. Got into a mad dog bite landed a 29″ a little over 17#, a 11#, a 10# and three 9’s along with 20 or so more fish from 5-8 pounds All on Magictail Tog Jigs baited with crab.

Fish Head Charters

Saturday November 9th I had Joe C (father and son) aboard from North Jersey. We got on a few fish right away. The morning bite was good but short lived bite. We went on the hunt for bigger size but after an hour of looking we switched gears and set up for tog. The fishing was good and Joe’s 8 year old son had a bent rod for the rest of the day.

Sunday November 10 morning was a fun day on the water. I had Paul in from Philly. The early morning light show (sunrise) was awesome but fishing was slow. Ran around and found some life. As the wind kicked up the action heated up. We got into good top water action with bass flipping out on bait with birds crashing. Below is a photo of the largest fish of the day.

Monday November 11th – Return client Matt Polito was aboard for a combo bass/tog trip. We started the day drifting bird plays catching a wide range of striped bass from 25″ to 25#. The first hour was best for us then the fish became finicky with the higher sun. We found our albie style approach worked; scaling down tackle, light line/leader and small lures (Hogy Epoxy Jigs & Sluggos rigged on a 1oz jig head). The second half of the trip was good with steady tog fishing. In about an hours time we caught five keeper size fish.

Here’s Matt Polito with a beautiful striped bass that he caught on light tackle fishing with Captain Greg Cudnik aboard Fish Head Charters.

We are bundled up for an Arctic blast and looking forward to fishing Thursday and Friday. Then it’s time to lash down for a coastal blow that looks to stick around for a number of days. Tuesday’s season’s first snow has realization setting in that the end is near. We’ve only got a few more weeks to fish. Now’s the time to get on the water and enjoy some great fishing.
